Mason was a music major at Northwestern University once he graduated he went on to work in web design. He later returned to school on a scholarship to study public policy at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy. Right around the time Mason started his post-graduate program he was also starting to work on a project that would later become Groupon. A former boss of Mason believed in Mason and his idea and invested $1 million in the new idea. Mason then dropped out of grad school to work on his idea full time.
