Spiegel was a product design major at Stanford University. At Stanford, Spiegel was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity where he was known for being an avid partier. At a party at Stanford he and two other fraternity members came up with the idea for Snapchat. Spiegel was the social chairman of his fraternity. Spiegel much like many other young tech entrepreneurs dropped out of college to pursue his idea, he did so while he was only a few credits short of graduating.
