Thatcher studied at Oxford University’s Sommerville College where she majored in chemistry. At Oxford, Thatcher was already politically active and she was President of the Conservative Association. Thatcher wrote her thesis on the structure of the antibiotic gramicidin and graduated with second-class honors. Thatcher decided to return to school to study law after she had already entered the world of politics, she specialized in taxation law.
