Whitman studied at Princeton University where she was initially a mathematics major but switched her degree to economics. At Princeton, Whitman was a member of the school’s lacrosse and squash teams. In the year 2000 Whitman became a trustee for Princeton, and in 2002 after a $30 million contribution to the school, Princeton named a college after her. Whitman completed her graduate studies at Harvard University where she earned an MBA.
